171 imagesLiverpool FC 2-2 Everton FC FA Premier League Anfield, Liverpool Sunday, January 16th, 2011 The 215th Merseyside Derby finished all square, leaving Everton without a win at Anfield this millennium. Liverpool's Raul Meireles scored his first goal for the Reds to open the scoring in the first half. After the break at was Everton that took the game by the scruff of the next scoring two early on, first though Sylvain Distin before Jermaine Beckford put the blues into the lead. Liverpool fought back but it took a penalty from Dirk Kuyt to level the scores and secure a point. The was manager Kenny Dalglish's first game back in charge at Anfield for 20 years, and strangely the third successive Merseyside Derby he's managed at Anfield. In 1991 he was in charge of a league game against Everton before facing them next in the FA Cup. After resigning after the replay at Goodison Park, it had to be that Everton would be the opponents on his first game back at Anfield.

56 imagesWigan Athletic FC 1-1 Liverpool FC FA Premier League DW Stadium, Wigan Wednesday, November 11th, 2010 Fernando Torres opens the scoring for Liverpool but Wigan come back in the second half with an equalising goal from Hugo Rodallega. Yet another miserable and lack-luster performance from Roy Hodgson's men was compounded when a chorus of boos rang out from the away supporters when the manager brought on Christian Poulsen. Hodgson has been under fire all season for the team's inept performances and the patients of the supporters has worn out with some calling for his resignation.

114 imagesBolton Wanderers FC 0-1 Liverpool FC FA Premier League Reebok Stadium, Bolton Sunday, October 31st, 2010 Liverpool's dismal run of results looks like continuing at the Reebok Stadium. One win in eight matches had left Roy Hodgson's Reds in the relegation zone and many fans calling for his head. A battling performance against Bolton was rewarded when Fernando Torres nutmegged the ball through Gary Cahill's legs with a sublime back-flick to set-up the on-running Maximiliano Ruben Maxi Rodriguez to score a late winning goal.

160 imagesLiverpool FC 1-2 Blackpool FC FA Premier League Anfield, Liverpool Sunday, October 3rd, 2010 Liverpool suffered yet another embarrassing home defeat, their second in succession. After the humiliation of losing to Northampton, it was another minnow, this time Blackpool, who's turn it was to heap the pressure on Reds manager Roy Hodgson. Blackpool took the lead with a penalty and then scored the second during injury time in the first half. Liverpool's response in the second half was tepid. With Christian Poulsen and Joe Cole both ineffectual the 63-year-old Reds boss dithered and stalled on the touchline unable to make a decision. It wasn't until Poulsen was replaced, with loud cheers from the all sides of the ground, that the Reds made a breakthrough. That came via the head of Greek man-mountain Sotirios Kyrgiakos. Not pretty or skilful but it got Liverpool back in the game. Unfortunately Roy's men didn't have the guile to break down a resolute Blackpool who hung on to claim their biggest ever scalp and leave Liverpool firmly in the relegation zone. During the match the Kop called for Kenny Dalglish, a clear indication that the fans wanted Hodgson out and their legendary hero to take the helm.

194 imagesLiverpool FC 2-2 Sunderland FC FA Premier League Anfield, Liverpool Saturday, September 25th, 2010 A rare Saturday 3pm kick-off at Anfield for Liverpool, but more of the same mediocre football served up by new manager Roy Hodgson. The Reds took the lead when Sunderland's Michael Turner inexplicably failed to take a free-kick with enough force and the loose ball was pounced on by Fernando Torres, who went one-on-one with the goalkeeper before squaring the ball to Dirk Kuyt. Sunderland equalised with a penalty after Christian Poulsen handled the ball and then took the lead themselves in the second-half, Darren Bent scoring with a header at the Kop end. Liverpool's captain Steven Gerrard came to the rescue once again with a powerful header set-up by Torres, but the Reds weren't capable of scoring a winning third goal as boss Hodgson dithered and froze on the bench.

156 imagesManchester United FC 3-2 Liverpool FC FA Premier League Old Trafford, Manchester Sunday, September 19th, 2010 A second-half comeback from Liverpool wasn't enough as Man Utd ran out 3-2 winners thanks to a hat-trick from previously redundant striker Dimitar Berbatov. Manchester had stormed into a two goal lead before Fernando Torres was hacked down in the box. Amazingly the referee awarded the visiting team a penalty, despite the incident being a blatant penalty it was such a rare occurrence for the referee to be fair to the visitors that there was shock all round. Reds captain Steven Gerrard scored from the spot and moments late Torres was again cynically brought down. This time it was John O'Shea who was the last man. But reverting back to form the referee only showed a yellow card. The United player should have been shown the red and sent off, but the referee didn't have the courage to apply the letter of the law against United twice in one match. Gerrard scored from the free-kick to level the scores 2-2. O'Shea, who should have been having an early bath popped up on the right of the Liverpool defence to produce a cross for Berbatov to score his hat-trick goal and seal a 3-2 victory. It was another defeat for Reds' boss manager Roy Hodgson, to one of his good friends in football Alex Ferguson.

69 imagesEverton FC 0-1 Newcastle United FC FA Premier League Goodison Park, Liverpool Saturday, September 18th, 2010 A fantastic goal from debutante Hatem Ben Arfa handed Newcastle United their first win at Goodison Park in 15 games. 93 imagesStoke City FC 2-1 Aston Villa FC FA Premier League Britannia Stadium, Stoke-On-Trent Monday, September 13th, 2010 New Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier was unable to attend as he served out his notice with the French Football Federation, so caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald stood in once again. Stoke City's manager Tony Pulis was also absent from the start of the match due to the death of his mother earlier in the day. He appeared at half-time to inspire his side to a two-goal comeback. Aston Villa took the lead in the first half through Stuart Downing, who came under heavy abuse from the home crowd who questioned his international appearances for England. In the second half, with Pulis on the touchline Stoke came back strongly and goals from Kenwyne Jones, his first for the club, and Robert Huth, sealed their first League victory of the season.

118 imagesBirmingham City FC 0-0 Liverpool FC FA Premier League St. Andrews Stadium, Birmingham Sunday, September 12th, 2010 Liverpool gave debuts to Raul Meireles and Paul Konchesky but they couldn't inspire the Reds to victory during this goal-less draw. Former Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp, working as a pundit on television, described Fernando Torres' performance as "diabolical".

122 imagesEverton FC 3-3 Manchester United FC FA Premier League Goodison Park, Liverpool Saturday, September 11th, 2010 Two goals in injury time salvaged an unexpected point for Everton. Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta netted in extra time to level the scores 3-3. Everton had taken the lead through Steven Pienaar, but Manchester United scored either side of the half-time break though Darren Fletcher and captain Nemanja Vidic before Dimitar Berbatov gave the mancs a two goal advantage. Despite referee Martin Atkinson awarding pretty much every decision in favour of the visitors he couldn't prevent two last-gasp goals from Everton saving a point for the Merseysiders. However, Blues boss manager David Moyes was furious after the game as the referee blew the whistle for full time just as Everton were about to shoot for the winning goal. The match overshadowed the story of Manchester United's manager Alex Ferguson dropping Wayne Rooney from the squad. Ferguson stating the intense atmosphere at Goodison Park and the anger supporters feel to the player as being too much for the England international. Earlier in the week a newspaper had alleged that he had slept with a prostitute whilst his wife was pregnant, leading to fears that the fans taunts would get to him.
