Wales U19 3-3 Turkey U19
UEFA Under 19 Championship - Qualifying Round Group 1
Richmond Park, Carmarthen
Wednesday, October 20, 2010
Wales drew 3-3 with Turkey at Richmond Park, Carmarthen this evening in the opening UEFA Under 19 qualifying match.
Wales went a goal-down early-on after a goalmouth mix-up and were often second best for long periods of the first half. Gradually they fought-back and enjoyed a good spell in the lat ten minutes of the half when Aaron Holloway (Bristol City) went close with a good drive from 20 yards out that was palmed-around the post.
The second half was only ten minutes old when the home side got back on level terms with a well taken header from Holloway, beating the Turkish keeper all ends-up. The lead was short-lived however, as the Turks struck twice in seven minutes to take a two goal lead.
The Turks still lead 3-1 with only minutes to go, but Wales continued to press and substitute Tom Bradshaw (Shrewsbury Town) scored to make it 3-2 as the Fourth Official announced four minutes of added time.
Wales pushed everyone forward and from a big kick-out from Jonathan Bond, Billy Bodin was bundled-over in the penalty area. The referee pointed straight to the spot.
Captain Adam Matthews of Cardiff City stepped-up to send the goalie the wrong way to win a vital point. A moral victory for the Wales lads who never gave up.
In the other match, Iceland beat Kazakhstan 4-0 at Llanelli.
